Troubleshooting
Yield Monitor 2000
Ag Leader Technology
June 1997
6-8
If the MN, MX value is incorrect (e.g., MN=255, MX=0), or the OF
number is incorrect, check the cab, distribution, and flow sensor cables
for loose connections or cable damage and use a volt-ohm meter to
check for continuity or shorts in each cable.
Also, check the resistances in the short flow sensor cable, which is
attached to the flow sensor, between pins one and four and pins two and
three. Between pins one and four should be 375 ohms and between pins
two and three should be 350 ohms.
Refer to the Reference section for the pinouts of each cable.
6. The flow sensor or the stainless steel deflector plate is installed
backwards, and the grain is not hitting the flow sensor.
Solution: On some combines, the flow sensor or the curved stainless
steel deflector plate can be installed backwards. Take the flow sensor out
and examine how it was installed. If your yield monitor kit was shipped
with an elevator deflector plate, examine how it is installed. Refer to the
installation instructions for the correct installation.
Install the curved stainless deflector with the curve against the back of
the elevator housing where the paddles are bringing up the grain. Install
the flow sensor so that the grain coming off of the paddles hits the
impact plate (plate with curve at one end that attaches to the black load
cell) at approximately a 90 degree angle (for Deere 9x00 and Claas
combines, the grain will hit the impact plate at an angle of 25 to 30
degrees)
7. Grain flow is too low for the monitor to measure consistently.
Solution: This is a problem in only extreme cases (example: harvesting
grass seed with a large combine) where the flow of grain going through
the combine is small (1 to 2 lbs/sec). If you think this is the problem you
are having, Ag Leader Technology can provide a “Low Flow Chip” to
help you measure the smaller flows, or you can take a larger swath width
or drive faster during harvesting.
Incorrect Acre
Counting
1. The swath is set incorrectly.
Solution: Press the SWATH, # ROWS, and ROW SPACE key to
display the swath setting. The monitor has two swath settings: “cut
swath” and “head swath”. Cut swath is the swath the monitor uses to
calculate acres and can be temporarily adjusted down when harvesting
point rows or finishing a field (the monitor chirps when cut swath is less
than head swath). Head Swath is the full swath of the head and changes
